Risk remains
Trading involves risk and results are never guaranteed.
A momentum indicator is a chart tool designed to help you read the strength and direction of market movement.
It does not predict price. It measures what price has already done and puts that on the chart in a form you can read at a glance.
What momentum actually measures
Momentum is the rate of change in price, not the price itself. A market can be rising while its momentum falls, which is one of the more useful things a chart can tell you.
Most momentum tools compare recent movement against a longer reference window, then express the difference as a line, a histogram or a shaded band.
- Direction: is the move up or down.
- Strength: how forceful the move is against its own recent history.
- Change: whether that strength is building or fading.
- Context: where this sits in the wider trend.
Why traders read momentum at all
Price alone tells you where the market is. Momentum tells you something about the quality of how it got there, which is what people mean when they say a move looks tired or looks strong.
The practical value is in what it rules out. A momentum read that disagrees with the price move is a reason to slow down and look again rather than a signal in itself.
What a momentum indicator cannot do
No momentum tool knows the future, and none of them removes risk. Momentum is a description of the past expressed in a readable form.
Any tool that promises a hit rate, a guaranteed entry or a risk-free method is selling something other than momentum.
- It cannot predict the next candle.
- It cannot tell you a position size.
- It cannot know your time horizon or your risk tolerance.
- It cannot replace a decision you have to make yourself.
How PrismEdge uses momentum
PrismEdge reads momentum across several timeframes at once and states one verdict rather than leaving you to reconcile six oscillators by eye.
That verdict sits beside the cycle read, the risk score and the market directory, so momentum is one input into a picture rather than the whole answer.
Risk and expectations
Momentum tools support decisions. They do not make them, and they carry no guarantee of any outcome.
PrismEdge is market-information software, not financial advice. Every trading decision stays yours.
Risk note
Trading involves risk. This content is educational only. A momentum indicator is a market information and education tool, not financial advice, and no result is guaranteed.
